Sandy Mullins of Facilities Management at Appalachian State was surprised and honored to receive the "Outstanding Leadership Award" at the May 2023 meeting of the North Carolina Association of Physical Plant Administrators, known as NCAPPA, held in Wilmington, North Carolina.

This award is given to a supervisor, manager, or director who excels in their position and is highly regarded by employees for their consistent leadership, integrity, understanding and support of their employees both professionally and personally. These leaders know that the productivity, quality of work and the morale in the department/division are enhanced by well treated employees. In addition, an employee’s loyalty and dedication are a direct result of their supervisor’s positive attitude, integrity, sensitivity, and team building skills.

Sandy is our Executive Assistant for our Associate Vice Chancellor of Facilities. Last year she was given the task of managing our first NCAPPA conference. Not only did she handle the task exceptionally well, but it’s been said that our conference was one of the best ever. She organized the team, the schedule, the entertainment and even had a hand in the food menu.
Not only was Sandy able to handle the task with a smile but it seemed to us that she did it flawlessly She has a way of leading people that not only achieved maximum productivity but made us feel very needed and appreciated.
Sandy performs this way daily with her many duties and certainly deserves our appreciation.
To me the way she was able to pull off our NCAPPA conference showcases her many leadership skills in a nutshell. She is truly an outstanding leader.
