Dear Department heads:
You are receiving this message because you chair a department that has students, faculty and/or staff learning and working in East Hall.
A recent inspection of East Hall indicated areas that need asbestos remediation. The university has hired a contractor to remediate asbestos-containing materials. This work is taking place out of an abundance of caution, following a report of minor ceiling damage in the building.
The remediation work will begin on Saturday, March 8 and is scheduled to be completed before Monday, March 17. During the time the remediation work is underway, East Hall will remain closed, and there will be no entry allowed into the building except as approved by Facilities Management. Signage will be posted at the work zone entrances and air monitoring outside work zones will be performed during this time.
Prior to reopening, the building will be re-inspected by an independent third party certified industrial hygiene firm, which will perform inspection and clearance air monitoring.
Please be sure those in your department have removed projects, laptop computers, or any other items needed for work and/or classes before 5 p.m., tomorrow, March 7.
Thank you for your assistance and cooperation as we complete this work. If you have questions about this project, please email braingl@appstate.edu.

Director of Facilities Operations
